A Forgivable Loan, PPP for Notaries!

Apr 13, 2021

Hi, this is Laura Biewer, Founder of CoachMeLaura.com and the Founder of the Notary Symposium - an event by notaries for notaries.

I want to share some important information with you that can financially help you and your business. It is called the Paycheck Protection Program or PPP, and it comes under the Cares Act. It helps companies and independent contractors who have had difficulty because of the Corona virus and shut down that we experienced.

If you were in business before February 15th of 2020, and you had at least a gross income of $5,000 in either of those years, you can apply. I personally applied back in April of 2020. I was approved and I did receive a check directly to my business account. The calculation, however has changed, and it's now easier and you can qualify for more money to easily calculate what you might receive.

Just take either your 2019 tax return or your 2020, whichever is greater. Look at line seven on your schedule C. Take that amount, divide by 12,...

My Time Is Money!

Mar 24, 2021

Hi, this is Laura Biewer with CoachMeLaura.com, the Notary Symposium, and At Your Service Mobile Notary.

You know, I have a question. Do we treat our time like money? Because if our time is like money, and many agree it is, then why would we give it away?

It's important that we say YES to the right opportunities, and decline or say NO to some of the other ones. Your main goal should be to only take on what you know you have time for, and for those things you truly care about.

Now I'm writing about this because I'm not that good at it. I'm constantly taking jobs and fitting one more in than what I had planned for, which will make me late, cause me to be in a hurry. I have taken jobs that are financially not appropriate for me.

I have taken a last minute unscheduled call that said, do you have a minute? And it was 20 minutes! I've been sucked into that rabbit hole called Facebook!

So these are examples of sharing my most valuable asset, my time. And it takes away from my family, from...

Can You Certify This Copy, Please?

Oct 13, 2020

Hi, this is Laura with Coach Me Laura and At Your Service Mobile Notary.

Today let's chat about a commonly requested act from us called "Copy Certification". This is when the signer brings a document and they need it to be certified that it is a true copy, they're asking for notarization. This is one of the only times we are performing a notarization where there's no signature involved!

If you're in one of the 20 States that has this notarial act, congratulations, you get to do it! There will be procedures involved, for instance, whether you need to make the copy or not, whether you need to keep a copy or not. There will be certificate language for you to use that is specific to this.

Also, there are some restrictions for all 50 States. These restrictions are for vital records like birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, or publicly recorded documents like real estate or court documents. These are documents that we will NOT be making a certification of the...

Making It Happen!

Sep 29, 2020

Hi, this is Laura with Coach Me Laura and At Your Service Mobile Notary, I want to check in with you today about how to take your knowledge, your skill, your expertise serving the public as a notary, and make money while you're doing it!

First of all, we need to get it off of 'someday' and make it now. So how are we going to do that? Well, we're going to expect it, and the way we're going to demonstrate that expectation is we're going to start doing what we can with what we have, and where we are. We're going to start making appointments with ourselves on our calendar for some steps that I can take to get myself closer to being whatever kind of notary it is that you want to be.

I'm a six figure notary. Would you like to be a six figure notary? You can do that! It's not enough to be interested. Interested means when it's convenient, I might do some work towards it. Committed means I do the work, whether I feel like it or not, right? Cause that's what's going to get me there.

Confidence Is a Process!

Aug 25, 2020

Hi, this is Laura with Coach Me Laura and At Your Service Mobile Notary.

You know, I hear frequently, "I just need some confidence. I have my tools, have my commission. I've got my other credentials to do NSA work. I've even signed up with the signing companies, but I'm afraid to accept that first job'. You know, 'I might make a mistake. The client might not like me. I might not know what to do with the document. I might freeze!"

I want you to know that there's only so much preparation that you can really do before you just have to step out and do the work. Confidence comes after the courage to take the action and get in the game.

You need to get off the sidelines. So here's some things you can do to get your first assignment, get that going.

First, stop doing the things that rob you of your confidence! Reading those notary reforms that talk about mistakes and bad assignments and terrible clients. It's enough to deter anybody! Do things that boost your confidence.

Try a mock...

How To Recapture Time!

How To Recapture Time!

Hi, this is Laura with Coach Me Laura and At Your Service Mobile Notary.

This last Sunday, I had quite a few appointments, but you know what? Two of them got cancelled. And of course, this happens to us all the time. When you handle specialty work, it can happen on any given day when you do loan signing work. It typically happens during month end. So either way, there needs to be a better way. So let's prepare for that unoccupied time.

You know, we might feel frustrated. Our time's been wasted. It created holes in my very carefully structured day.

But what if I shared with you that it was a blessing in disguise out of every adversity, there is a seed of equal or greater benefit. I just have to look for it.

I listened to many different coaches outside of the industry of notary. And this time Lisa Sasevich's latest YouTube video gave me a great idea!

What if that cancellation made an opening for an even better paying or closer assignment? What if the...

Make It Easy... Just W.O.R.K.

Aug 03, 2020

Hi,This is Laura with CoachMeLaura.com and AtYourServiceMobileNotary.

Today, I want to talk about work and what that means. Many people talk about workouts, meaning exercise, and others talk about the work they do, meaning how they make a living. They're teachers. They're bankers. They're painters. They're notaries. They're sellers of insurance. I was listening to a Napoleon Hill book about the roads to riches, and there were a dozen, very well known experts from the personal development field. And they each commented on the different principles named in the book. Les Brown, in particular, talked about how he reminds himself of the four crucial elements that make him successful. So let's put new meaning to the word work and make it an acronym.

W - that's for the willingness to do what's required. It means showing up, being competent at what you do and doing more than what's expected with enthusiasm.

O - is for ownership, mentally taking charge of your own self initiative to...

Notary Symposium 2020 Virtual-Live

Jul 29, 2020

Hi, this is Laura with Coach Me Laura and At Your Service Mobile Notary. I have fabulous news to share!

If you haven't heard, the Notary Symposium has gone virtual-live for 2020! We're in a crazy time with this pandemic and everyone is trying to respond in a new way. And so have we! With the adversity that we face, if we look for a seed of something good, we're sure to find it. And we did! We made the pivot to be a virtual-live event, and we opened the doors to everyone across the United States. We're not limited by our location in California. And I was able to recruit new speakers outside of the state of California and have topics that can apply to anybody. And finally, we could add more people. We weren't limited to the physical space of the building we occupied.

So why should you attend this year?

Well, let me talk to you a little bit about the speakers we recruited. We wanted to bring you implementable strategies that you can use this year to move that business a...

Phrases That Make People Feel Good

Jul 21, 2020

Hi, this is Laura with Coach Me Laura and At Your Service Mobile Notary.

And I want to share with you 10 phrases that helped me make and keep connections. I started these a few years back and I found that these phrases,  where implemented authentically and appropriately, gave amazing results!

I'd like to share one story in particular. I of course used to do a hundred percent loan signings and then slowly but surely I've moved into the mobile notary work and less of the NSA work. And of course, the NSA work I'm doing pays more for me because I tend to do escrow direct, or I get the highest end of what signing services are willing to pay. There's one signing service in particular, and she doesn't call me all the time because she knows this about me, but whenever she's in a bind, she'll give me a call and say, can you help me? I always try to help her and am happy to do it.

So this happened recently. There was a notary that canceled. I don't know what the reason was, but she...
